Easy Ride

Cycling - 10.5 miles / 53:00

Easy spin in easy gears this morning. I love the Rock Island Trail - it's so beautiful and you can ride quite far without crossing a major street. Lots of people out there walking, running and cycling this morning. So great to see people getting active!

Upper Body Tuesday

P90X Shoulders & Arms / 59:00

Eh - what can I say...upper body strengthening day. It has to be done...and now...it's done!

Tempo Run

3 miles / 33:00

Well, this wasn't a tempo run, like it says on my training schedule - but it was 3 miles, as scheduled, pain-free. I did take a few walk breaks to take it easy on the hammie. I also went ahead and wore my Vibrams - tippy-toe striding anyhow!

Running happy!

Sunday Ride

Spin Bike - 13 miles / 55:00

This ride was ill fated from the get go. I should learn just to "take the extra rest day." But noooo take away the street drugs, and hey - I gotta get my rush somehow. Heh.

I brought my bike inside on Saturday evening so I could ride Sunday morning. Tires were low and my old tire pump would work on my new fangled tires. No problem, I'll just swim in the morning. Wrong. The Y doesn't even open until 7am on Sunday! What's up with THAT? Nope, that won't work, hafta be at church. So, I figured we could stop and get a tire pump on the way home...we did, but it was 115 degrees of bone bleaching, hair curling heat outside. :( Boo.

As much as I hate indoor workouts in the good weather season, I went for a spin while The Boy was at Student Ministry. I don't know what was UP with that bike, but I thought I had it adjusted properly. The seat, y'all. That's all I'm going to say. I was pretty uncomfortable at the 30 minute mark, but wanted to get a long, low cardio spin done, so I toughed it out. At the 55min mark I packed it in - just couldn't go 5 more minutes.

Anyway - it's done. Yay!

Rest Day

Saturday is my rest day. Last week I rode my bike instead - so I haven't had a rest day in 14 days. I love to workout, and if I could get away with it every day, I would. But smarter people than I have determined that rest is as important to your training as the work! So - I s'pose I will take my kids to the swimming pool, hang out in the back yard and get a tan, maybe watch some Stargate, and rest. :D

Long Run Friday - For Real!

6 miles / 1:14

I could just go on and on about how wonderful this run was! My average pace (12:20) was not what I would ultimately like to see at my upcoming Half (11:44), but for the first long run after injury - I'll take it.

I used a 6/2 run/walk ratio to keep my muscles from tensing to much. After I loosened up a bit and found my happy pace, I was sorry to take the walk breaks. I wore my Mizuno's - but still run on the pads of my feet. I may be back in my Vibram's on Monday. My 'real' shoes restrict the spread of my toes, and I did experience some discomfort on my right foot. My toes just felt squished and too hot.

I brought water with Nuun and one Gu Energy Gel that I squished down my throat around the halfway mark. I have a hard time with getting up and running long on an empty stomach. I used to eat half a banana and a little swig of skim milk before a long run. I recently read that it doesn't metabolize while you run, anyway, so why take in the extra calories?

All in all - SO very happy to be running a little longer again. Very much looking forward to building longer distances and continuing my training!

Swim

1000m swim / 40:00

My back has been killing me for the last few days, so I thought I'd swim today. Not sure that it really helped - although no impact - my lower back seemed very tight afterward. Here's the breakdown. I'm still resting a little between each 50m stretch, but I did have a few 100m stretches without rest.

2x50 - breaststroke
2x50 - backstroke
4x50 - kick drills
4x50 - breath practice
4x50 - backstroke
2x50 - breaststroke

I'm looking forward to the time when I can take some lessons and get some tips on my form. It's fine to watch YouTube and get an idea of what I'm supposed to do - but I need some actual direction one of these days.
