Swim

1000m swim / 40:00

My back has been killing me for the last few days, so I thought I'd swim today. Not sure that it really helped - although no impact - my lower back seemed very tight afterward. Here's the breakdown. I'm still resting a little between each 50m stretch, but I did have a few 100m stretches without rest.

2x50 - breaststroke
2x50 - backstroke
4x50 - kick drills
4x50 - breath practice
4x50 - backstroke
2x50 - breaststroke

I'm looking forward to the time when I can take some lessons and get some tips on my form. It's fine to watch YouTube and get an idea of what I'm supposed to do - but I need some actual direction one of these days.

Friday Brick

Swim - 700yd / 30:00
Bike - 15mi / 60:00

I figured out why the call it a brick workout. Because when you're done, your legs feel like jell-o and your feet are heavy like bricks.

I got to the gym at a little after 5 this morning. I wore my swim suit there for convenience sake. I attempted to lay out my cycling clothes for the locker room "transition."

My swim was great, it was very nice to be in the water twice this week. I warmed up with my fave strokes and then did some kick and pull drills. I'm practicing my free-style stroke and trying to work on it one piece at a time.

I went to change for my bike ride and realized that I had forgotten a necessary support garment. I improvised by spinning out my suit and wearing the tank top portion with my bike skirt - worked great! I spun the "wheels" off of that stationary bike, and felt great.

I'm getting more confident! If I had cut the bike ride back to 12 miles and then ran a 5k, I would have completed a sprint triathlon. I have one in mind for next year - glad to see that I am physically capable - now I can work on SPEED! Muahahaha!!

Monday Swim

Swim - 1500yds / 55:00

I did NOT want to get up and do this today. I actually felt quite resistant even last night...but, of course, I'm glad that I did.

I went to the YMCA to swim, because we've had so much rain this weekend I thought I bike ride would be messy. I "raced" a 6 year old and played volleyball last night at a party and my hamstring injury was still yelling at me. I'm hoping to try a 2 mile run on Wednesday...praying for healing over here. Here's the breakdown of my workout this morning:

Warm Up - 250
Back Stroke - 250
Up and back kick drills - 2 x 250
Back stroke - 250
Cool Down - 250

I still haven't tried much front crawl...the water in the ear and the whole breathing thing still freaks me out. I managed to get a great workout with the other strokes and work on kicking efficiently.
